Hurricane season is the time of year when hurricanes are expected to form in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It lasts from June through November, with the peak of activity from August through September.
The US National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which was due to expire in two months, has been extended for six months under a bill approved by the House of Representatives. This will extend the program until March 31, 2010.
